La Porte Regional Health System announces acquisition of Lakeshore Surgicare complete

La Porte Regional Health System (LRHS) announces the acquisition of Lakeshore Surgicare is complete.

Under the terms of the sale and transfer, the acquisition of Lakeshore Surgicare to LRHS officially closed Wednesday, March 31. LRHS entered into a transaction to acquire the center, located in Chesterton, Ind., in mid-March. The LRHS board of directors, Clarian Health board of directors and Lakeshore Surgicare board of directors each initially approved the agreement in late February.

LRHS President/CEO G. Thor Thordarson said, “As an organization, we are thrilled to expand our ambulatory surgery capabilities into new service areas. Our strategic plan is to be the regional health care system of choice for area residents, and help them meet their health and wellness needs through excellence in health care.”

Established in 2006, Lakeshore Surgicare primarily provides outpatient orthopaedic and related surgeries. The 11,200 square-foot facility, its operations and approximate 30 employees will fall under the umbrella of LRHS, assuming all of the organization’s benefits.

The acquisition transfers ownership of Lakeshore Surgicare to LRHS, which is a Clarian Health partner. LRHS executives plan to make as little changes as possible to the center. Transition teams will be exploring options to bring in new physician partnerships.

“During the next several months of transition, patients will continue to receive the same great care already provided by the current group of high quality employees and physicians available at Lakeshore Surgicare,” Mark Rafalski, LRHS Chief Operating Officer, said.

Through the acquisition, the Clarian Health commitment to education, research and community health is expanded to more area residents, Clarian Health vice president of Business Development Scott Black said. “We are proud and excited to welcome Lakeshore Surgicare to the Clarian Health system. Lakeshore Surgicare is joining an organization committed to patient quality, and patients and staff will benefit through the shared resources, networking, physician relationships and Clarian’s strong partnership with the Indiana University School of Medicine.”

La Porte Regional Health System, a not-for-profit organization, is a Clarian Health Partner made up of La Porte Hospital, a 227-bed acute care hospital; Starke Memorial Hospital, a 53-bed acute care facility in Knox, Ind.; and LifePlex Diagnostic Imaging, located in Plymouth, Ind. The organization is comprised of La Porte Regional Physician Network, physicians providing a variety of services in office locations throughout LaPorte, Starke, St. Joseph, Marshall, Pulaski and Porter counties as well as the La Porte Hospital Foundation, a 501(C)3 corporation that supports LRHS through encouragement of charitable giving and healthier communities and lifestyles and the La Porte Hospital Auxiliary, a membership-based support organization for LRHS that provides volunteer services and funds philanthropic projects.
